Description (last modified by Paul Leo)

We've found an issue with sorting on Kendo Chart and Table.

In the attached images for https://ibis.health.state.nm.us/query/result/brfss/BRFSSCrude11_/GenHealth.html (note this URL will probably change will update with new...)

Even though the dimension is defined as follows:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<DIMENSION>
	<NAME>GenHealth</NAME>
	<TITLE>Percentage with excellent, very good, good, fair, or poor health</TITLE>
	<PROXY_DIMENSION_NAME>IndicatorProxy</PROXY_DIMENSION_NAME>
	<VALUES>
		<VALUE>1<TITLE>Excellent</TITLE></VALUE>
		<VALUE>2<TITLE>Very Good</TITLE></VALUE>
		<VALUE>3<TITLE>Good</TITLE></VALUE>
		<VALUE>4<TITLE>Fair</TITLE></VALUE>
		<VALUE>5<TITLE>Poor</TITLE></VALUE>
		<VALUE>.<TITLE>Total</TITLE><NOT_SELECTABLE_FLAG/></VALUE>
	</VALUES>
</DIMENSION>

The table is presented in this order: Excellent Fair Good Poor Very Good

In addition HI's almost all of HI's dimensions will probably not have Titles (unless it becomes necessary) because their data is almost all char.

In discussions with Lois and Katherine, we were wondering aloud whether there could be some "field" or element that would define a "custom or default" sort order.

Perhaps this is considered an enhancement. Hawaii may be able to fund this depending upon outcome of analysis and how it is ranked among other issues/enhancements

According to Lois 5/18/2015 the DIMENSION/VALUE SORT_ORDER element/feature works. Note that it is not possible for this as you'd intuitively want it to when doing group bys on a given dimension - e.g to always guess right. If only 1 group by dimension and that dim has values with a SORT_ORDER then it will be used. However, when doing a 2nd group by it won't work as the kendo grid keys off title or could be keyed off of of either the sort order but NOT both.

So for example if you choose to group by sort order your grid and chart titles would be "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" and NOT "Excellent, good, ... poor". Group by the title and it sorts and groups by title by sort order and you'll get numbers. Can't say group by this character column that has a title, break and group the chart by this title but sort the grid by a different column. The chart and grid are integrated.

Also, if an adopter wants to be able to sort by title, value, and sort order the sort order column MUST be added to the grid.

The SORT_ORDER element/feature does work. Don't think that it resolves all issues with sorting, will need to discuss what if any other options could/would work, or just leave 2.3 as is, and address later

Did a bunch more reading and testing but no go. Here's the response from kendo may 2015: http://www.telerik.com/forums/custom-sorting-for-group
