#270 closed Issue (Fixed)

Number formatting not applied to map legend or popups

Description

This is just an issue adopters need to be aware of. The formatting that is used by the xslt (for indicator reports and for query results pages) is not / cannot be used by the map software.

If we want a certain number of decimal places to appear on the map legend, we need to enter our data into the indicator report with the desired number of decimal places, and output our data from SAS with the desired number of decimal places.

HOWEVER, do not use SAS formats that put non-numeric characters (like comma thousands separators or currency signs) into the output. The SAS output needs to be strictly numeric.

CLARIFICATION: The popup should show the exact formatted value shown in the HTML data table. If not then a detailed ticket should be created that provides the exact IP or query that shows the issue.

For the legend it will not make any difference if you limit the decimals places. Depending on which grouping method is used, the values are calculated on the fly by the javascript stats package which we have little control over without spending some significant development time on.

SUMMARY: Don't spend any time on limiting decimals or formatting. The legend will use the formatted values if available otherwise it uses what it calculates.

Won't work on the legend where GeoStats? is calculating group lower and upper limits - that will still produce 2-digits to the right of the decimal. But it's not worth the effort to program that fix into the legend.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
