Description

GIT is a distributed version control system that has some advantages over SVN with no disadvantages other than learning new system and converting. The biggest reason to move to GIT is lessened dependency on the UT SVN server. Everyone can have a complete local repository as well as multiple mid tier repos that are 100% history complete. GIT has superior merging and diff utils. You can google why GIT is better and why most are moving away from SVN to GIT. We can have complete repos on our local drives, UT server, NM server, etc. Since we're open source GitHub? could be our main repo and it would be free.

If the IP dataset is moved from the DB to XML then the publishing will likely be repo based. As such GIT and SVN should be looked into at this point to determine the best solution.
