Campylobacteriosis is caused by a group of bacteria called Campylobacter.
Most people who become ill with campylobacteriosis experience diarrhea, cramping, abdominal pain,
and fever 2 to 5 days after becoming infected with the bacteria. The diarrhea may be bloody
and can be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. The illness typically lasts 1 week and most people
recover without treatment. Campylobacteriosis usually occurs in single, sporadic cases, but it
can also occur in outbreaks. Most sporadic cases are associated with handling or eating raw or
undercooked poultry meat. Outbreaks have been linked to the consumption of unpasteurized milk or
                contaminated water.
