31In order to provide a consistent grouping and ranking standard, the <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/index.htm">National
32Center for Health Statistics</a> (NCHS) prepared a
33<a href="query/NCHS113.html">List of 113 Selected Causes of Death</a>.  Fifty causes on that list were designated
34as eligible to be ranked as leading causes of death (<a href="query/NCHS50.html">List of 50 Rankable Causes of Death</a>).
35NJDOH's Center for Health Statistics derived the List of 33 Major Causes of Death from the list of 50 causes by grouping
36rare but rankable causes as well as unrankable causes into three residual groups for ease of use and tabulation
37(#5, 29, and 33 in the table below). For more information about the NCHS rankings see
