24
2016 PRAMS

25
26
A new Demographics category.
We introduced a new demographics category in this release.
27 This section allows users to view detailed information about the PRAMS population. Please note that
28 some of the demographic information is self-reported by the mother, and some comes directly from the
29 birth certificate. The source of the data can be found by hovering over the question mark by the
30 indicator selection title and under the Question Wording sub-heading in the Data Notes section of
31 the indicator report.
32

33 There are two new dimensions available for PRAMS in IBIS.
34

35
Gestational age, which comes from the birth certificate and is categorized as early
36 preterm (<32 weeks), preterm (32-36 weeks), normal term (37-41 weeks) and post term (42+ weeks).

37
Birthweight, which comes from the birth certificate and is categorized as low (<2500 grams),
38 normal (2500- 3,999 grams), or high (4,000+ grams).

39

73
2015 PRAMS

74
75 The primiparous dimension is not available in 2015 due to irregularities with the underlying data.

79
2014 PRAMS

80
81 Mother's education level - this dimension comes from the birth certificate form. In 2014, the
82 State of Hawaii transitioned to a new birth certificate form and this transition resulted in
83 irregularities in this data field. Accordingly, mother's education will be suppressed from 2014
84 pending consultation with the Office of Health Status Monitoring at the Hawaii Department of Health.

90
Note about indicator/dimension changes:

91 The PRAMS is constantly changing. HHDW staff carefully review the PRAMS survey instrument each year
92 to assess how changes in the survey instrument impact indicators and dimensions within the Hawaii-IBIS
93 system. If you have questions, check the Question Wording in the Data Notes section of the report.
